Apparently Italians like to stare!

So Tuesday was a fun day! After going back to the pool and helping Kim with aquasize, I went home and finally got some food in me! Dom and I then went to a bar and had a drink while we watched the Spain and Argentina game. So this whole trip I've noticed people staring, but it didn't bothered me since we were in huge groups running around like Americans! haha! But even when it was just Dom and I when we went to the bar, everyone just stared! It was kind of borderline rude! After the game, we headed back to the dorms and made it up to the roof and hung out for a little bit until bed time, which was early for me since we were going to Trieste the next morning!

So Wednesday was the start of our weekend so the girls, Kari, Taylor, Heather and I boarded the bus to Pordonone and then the train to Trieste! It was scorching hot on the train and was so uncomfortable since the train ride was 2 hours! When we got there the weather was great which was great since we were heading to a beach! However, when we got off the train we realized we had NO IDEA where we were going! So we just started walking in one direction on a main road hoping to hit the coast we could just follow! Luckily we came across a map and were able figure our way there. So this weekend trip we took was one we were told to go on by the first group who went a few weeks ago. We finally get to beach and I was super confused that there were different entrances for the girls and guys to the beach until I realized we were at a TOPLESS BEACH!!! haha! I completely forgot that group 1 went there and that this was the beach we were headed to! Anyways, not only was the beach topless with ladies from 10-80 years old laying out, but the beach was all rocks and little pebbles! It was an interesting experience and one don't think I would repeat again since it was a little uncomfortable laying on rocks versus sand. Side note: I have come across the conclusion that the goal of Italian women is to look like leather! So after the beach we decided to go find our hostel we were staying at that night. We knew there were cabs at the train station so we decided to walk back there. On our way we came across a clothing store which was having a sale so of course we stopped in for a bit. Kari and Heather went nuts and bought some stuff... me, on the other hand, was out in 3 minutes! The amount of people running around and yelling in Italian was way too much for me to handle! Once we finally got to the train station we took a cab to our hostel and checked in. Basically we were in room C with some older lady we never met and were all in cute little red bunk beds! After, we went to go get some food and talked to the bartender who spoke perfect english since he lived for a few years in New York! We stayed there for a little while and helped him try to recreate the classic "prom punch" for a party that night! After dinner, we met Michael, a 40 yr old man from Australia and Stefan, a 24 yr old from Germany traveling the world. So all us girls and our 2 new friends went and got a few drink at Bamboo a place not too far from our hostel. When we got back to our hostel around midnight, since there was a curfew, we went out to the balcony and met 2 men visiting from Switzerland! That night was interesting as I was woken up 2 times. Once by someone screaming to be let into the hostel past curfew, and the other, by the woman in our room slamming the locker. haha

The next day was just as hot as the day before! We walked right outside our hostel and onto the strip where everyone lays out and tans. So that's exactly what we did, we laid our towels down and were already sweating so we climbed down the rocks and swam into the Adriatic Sea! As I was saying before, the whole time we were walking up and down the strip we were stared at! It was kind of frustrating but I guess I understand since I clearly am not Italian! haha! But I didn't care because the water was so gorgeous and beautiful! We stayed there pretty much the whole day and then took the bus back to the train station. We got home safely and was so exhausted! The whole weekend was pretty great and relaxing and I can't wait for our next adventure!

Saturday was just another long day of work! It was a very warm day with a lot of people, which was put to a halt at around 3 pm because of thunder! It was like that until around 5 pm which we then let people in again to swim until we closed at 7. I worked the pool party that night which was for a group of boy scouts who wanted to complete some of their swimming badge. It all went fine and wasn't as taxing of a day as last week!

Today was 4th of July!!! It was an amazingly hot day which ended in a thunderstorm crazily enough! haha! Every adult swim a different guard played a game with all the kids. My game was the water balloon toss, which was a total hit on such a toasty day! Around 5 pm it started down pouring, thundering and then lightening! The storm was getting worse so we closed the pool! All us guards then decided to run back to the dorms since the rain didn't seem to be getting any better. It was so windy we couldn't use umbrellas so we all made ponchos out of garbage bags and ran home in the pouring rain! It was so funny, by the time we got to the tunnel it was so flooded we had to run around it! By the time we all got to the dorms we were so soaked it looked like we had all just gotten out of the shower! So we all dried off and now we are just hanging out and celebrating 4th of July together! So I'm off to continue our celebration! Happy Independence day everyone!!! Ciao!
